Jet Airways Review

As most of you will know, Callum and I are traveling on a fairly tight budget. I mean, when you're travelling for 7 months, you kind of have to be...unless of course you're minted, or if your trip is being funded by the bank of Mum and Dad. Either way, hats off to you! But for us, we have to watch what we spend so that we can continue travelling for so long. Nothing is going to dampen a trip more than having to return home early with our tails between our legs because we spunked all our money up the wall on tourist trap restaurants and lavish hotels.

Anyway...back to Jet Airways...

The first hurdle with planning the trip was flights. We booked through STA Travel, who I cannot recommend enough. They cater for all budgets and their brochures are so well written and laid out that it makes it very easy to plan your trip and route.

We got our flights to Singapore for about £300 each with Jet Airways, which was AMAZINGLY cheap. We had to change in Mumbai, so I guess if we wanted to make the experience faster and more convenient for ourselves, we could have paid extra for direct flights with a different airline, however, we're going travelling for six months and we have plenty of time on our side, so we thought we may as well get the flights with a transfer to save some cash that we may well need later on.

I didn't know what to expect from Jet Airways. They certainly had mixed reviews online and I'd heard from a few people I knew that had travelled with them, that their seats are notoriously assnumbing. But, hey, we were willing to give them a try - they were gonna get us from A to B, what more could we ask for?

I'm going to review them section by section to make this a bit less of an essay:

Time Keeping - 10/10
Both sectors we had (LHR-BOM and BOM-SIN) were not only on time, but got us to our destinations early.

Food and Drink - 8/10
We both ordered a vegetarian meal when we checked in online, but we didn't really need to because Jet offered a veggie alternative on the trolley anyway. I wish we had taken a picture of it, but we were both so hungry, we demolished it before the thought had even crossed our mind.

Overall, the food was really tasty. The veggie curry we had definitely had one hell of a kick to it, so if you like spicy food, you're sorted! Also on the main meal tray was plain yogurt, a warm nan bread-thing and a creamy desert.

The second meal that came along was a veggie wrap and man alive, was it good. The only issue with the wrap was I was still hungry after, but luckily I didn't have to starve for long, because the crew soon bought round chocolote ice creams for everyone. Perfect.

Undoubtedly the best part about flying with Jet was their alcohol servings. They are damn generous when it comes to measures of spirits in drinks; instead of serving you minatures, they just guestimate (and always overestimate) quantities from an industrial sized bottle on the trolley. My kinda drinks.

Comfort - 5/10
Why so low? Well, let me just ask: who has ever actually been truly comfortable on a long haul plane journey in economy? Probably no one. (I am aware this sounds very snobby, but I've only ever travelled in economy, so it's kind of acceptable to make these sweeping observations.)

Jet give you headphones, a blanket and a little pillow on your seat and all in all, it was a fairly pleasant experience. Leg room was okay up until the person in front of me decided to recline their chair all the way back, but that's the same with most airlines really!

Entertainment - 9/10
Plenty of films to choose from - both newly released ones like Deadpool and classics like Fight Club. Callum spent about 3 hours playing the bowling game, so I think he was happy too. Simple things please simple minds.

Value for Money - 10/10
As I mentioned earlier, we paid around £300 each for our ticket to Singapore. Compare this to the £1,300 each we could have paid for economy (or World Traveller - ooh, sounds so much more exotic than what it actually is) with British Airways and you have the ultimate bargain on your hands.

I used to work for BA, so I can safely say that the service offered by Jet is just as good and you're definitely not being short changed by travelling with a less prestigious airline.

Overall - 84%
Great airline! Great flight! Great staff! Would definitely fly with them again.

  1. Nice! My husband will only fly KLM if we can help it because we've always had good experiences! But since moving to NYC we're always on the look out for better value (NYC prices...ouch), especially since we're soooo far from home and a round trip to visit the loved ones can be pricey!
